RE: [diesel_mercedes] Charging System more woes

 

 

Second the Bosch voltage regulator.   Same problem w/ an Audi, a shop installed a

non brand, told me it was a Bosch.  Charging problems continued, then I looked closely

at the regulator and discovered it was a POS off shore product.  The shop "realized their mistake",

installed a new Bosch, and charging problems were no more.

The fix is dead simple : go order up and install a BOSCH branded voltage regulator ~ it's *instantly* raise the charge rate to 14 VDC off idle and you'll love it plus have easier starting this Winter .

The alternator is rebuilt from a real alternator/starter shop for $85.00.  Voltage regulator and bearings were replaced.  I am not sure how it passed at O'Reilly's the day before and was dead when tested at the alternator rebuild shop.

 

Also the correct size belt is on now.  I am charging 12.8 at idle underload and 13.5 when revved.  No problems but that still does seem a little low.
