I patched the crack with quicksteel and it is holding.  Also some hoses were detached and finally I bled the cooling system not sure if that mattered.

What was it that you did, if I may ask?

The biggest failure is cracking of the servo housing, which is indicated by a coolant leak in addition to bad or no performance.  That, and amplifier failure.

My theory is that all of the the servo housings that were going to crack, have done so by now, after 35-ish years.  Those with survivors are now in the clear.
