RE: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : Deutz Engines

Back in the 80's I had a equipment dealership, among others we where a Deutz dealer. At one of the annual sales Mtg. One was held in Florida, as part of the meeting was a visit to a few places where Deutz engine's was used in diff. applications. One was a large vegetable grower who used an 5 Cylinder air cooled Deutz engine to run a large irrigation pump, that engine had 16.000 hours on it and with out any major overhaul !! One thing about those old Air cooled engines was that there is no Head gasket ! only a sealing ring!!! I have seen many Deutz air cooled engines with 10.000 hours on the clock!!

In the real world, there are things to beware of.  Deutz engine parts are so expensive, it might have made better financial sense to scrap the truck than to try to repair the engine..

Brian's right, Nate - get that Deutz AirDiesel if you can! I'm a liker of those air-cooled beasts of engines..... remember your air-cooled VW days!

The Mercedes motto "You can't build an expensive car with cheap parts" provably holds here as well.  It doesn't translate well when you see expensive parts for Fiats.
