I had that happen once in a different car.
the shifting fork assembly had lost a pin, and come disconnected.

'80 300D been bomb proof till this am. Shifter went suddenly sloppy is in
neutral wont go into any gear just comepletely loose. Thankfully it
rolled(with me driving) back to the house and into the drive. any thoughts?
