RE: [diesel_mercedes] Those Old Chryslers !

I'd not allow that damnfool to check my oil .

Neat that anyone still cares to use those wonderful old engines .

When I was @ L.A.P.D. Air Support , we had 1964 Bell 203 helicopters , just a few left and I went digging 'round in our large piles of spare parts from the U.S. Army , who'd also supplied us our birds .

I found two trailer mounted starting carts , built in 1964 , powered by Chrysler 331 C.I.D. Hemi V-8 engines , 6 volts .

I was able to get them running , they had *very* low hours and ran like new .

We sold them both for scrap metal a couple years later .

The latest round of Jesse James (the custom bike/car guy) has him in a new shop in Texas . They hooked up an old Chrysler hemi to a newer transmission. They were able to get an adapter plate but it required cutting the bell housing off of the motor. They did it. Bill

Boy howdy Bill :

Talk about ' ZOOM - ZOOM ! =8-) .

To - day no one cares about those 331 C.I.D. Hemi V-8's , espcially since they had the bell housing cast as part of the cylinder block but they were great .
