Re: [diesel_mercedes] fixed my driver's seat springs

Hey, that is great. Got to (finally) do that on my wifes car. Don't suppose you took pictures for a full tutorial.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] fixed my driver's seat springs

I went for it; I skipped the pool noodles, and swapped out the springs
in my driver's seat. It wasn't too bad, though the seat has 4 slides and
you have to take it all apart to swap, with 3 screws in each slide. 2 of
my slides were frozen, and needed some grease (the one's that adjust
from the side lever). There are screws in the middle of each of the
slides, and they'll most likely slip inside when loose, and need to be
retrieved with a little magnet. Anyway, remove the seat back, and then
compress the seat and pull the fabric out of the little channel around
the edge, as the fabric is held in under pressure. I had to swap out a
fabric sheet which covered the springs, which was held in with hog
rings, as well as the foam from my car. Put it back together, clean up
the seat, the carpet along the edge, and bolt it back in. The passenger
and driver's side seats use the same springs, so I went for the
passenger side used seat to get the used springs. New springs are
available, and I'll see in the next few years if I made the right
decision by using the cheap used springs, rather than pop for the new
ones. Feels good now, and no more metal ends popping against each other
every time I sat down.
