I don't see why folks are worried about the plastic topped radiators.
The plastic topped radiators are stock, and mine (& most likely yours)
worked fine for 20+ years, unconcerned I bought another plastic topped
one when I needed it, a few years back. The plastic on the old radiator
was still fine, only the core had been clogged up, was overheating, and
was not responding to the flush. The water pump started dripping later
on, though beyond the seal leak, the internals still seemed fine.
I recently returned from a 2wk trip back east: NY,PA,RI, and was
surprised to find a dead battery in my MB. This battery hasn't given me
an issue before. While charging it up, I looked up the date, and it had
been in there for 4yrs. After charging it for most of the day and it
still wouldn't start, I replaced it, and enjoyed the 1/2 prorating left
on the battery. Seems fine now, though I'll stick the cheapo batt/alt
tester in the cigarette lighter hole just to make sure.
