[diesel_mercedes] Re: Power Loss Video

OOPS ~ Kent sorta missed a few things there :

You cannot use the hose clamps and still unscrew the 46 MM tank screen .

He also didn't mention there's no need to replace the tank , just clean it out , I do it at home but any radiator shop will do it and install a liner for under $200 .

His 46MM socket (I wonder why he doesn't mention the tool size) is a cut down one for easier access , plus he welded a 3/8" drive into the 1/2" drive socket , again to make this tool easier to use .

No matter how you do this job , you _WILL_ take a fuel bath ! it's best to run the car to almost on " E " then jack up the rear end and safely block it before crawling underneath with your clean oil drain pans , I used two as my tank was over 1/2 full when my car decided to not drive any further .

My in tank screen was far worse than this , pix of my fungus clogged in tank screen in the photos section of the Home Page .

Once you've removed the screen and gently cleaned it with an old toothbrush , take the drain pan full of old fuel and strain it through some clean cloth to filter it and re - use it to flush the tank in situ ~ each time you pour the fuel in , it'll come roaring out the open bottom of the tank and bring more crud with it ~ filter it again and repeat until no more crud comes out then use a few gallons of _gasoline_ to kill off the fungus , if any .

Once it's all clean , button it back up and pour in at least two gallons of Pump Diesel Fuel , start the engine and hold it to a high idle for three minutes , this will bleed out any air bubbles and prevent stalling .

I imagine the under hood , primary intake screen on this car had lots of schmutz in it too , that's where you get your first warning , don't ignore it ! as soon as you see crud in the clear screen , remove it and blow it out backwards , re install and begin dosing the fuel tank with Startron for fungus or Power Service " Diesel Kleen " for WVO / WMO powered cars .

Fungus look like slimy shiny black goop , not the veggie crud shown in the video .

Look at the video again and consider if you really want to abuse your Mercedes this way , there's a reason 99 % of the WVO cars are junked in a few years .
