Slushboxes can typically be ignored for 200,000 miles as long as you keep them topped up .
Of course , when it finally slips into neutral when you're taking SWMBO or that new hot SO out for dinner or 1,000 miles from home in the rain , it's _not_ going to be a simple $200 B1 valve fix........
Any time I smell burned ATF , I change it .
This means about 1/2 the time when I buy a used car , I have to change the ATF every two or three months for a while before it stays sweet smelling .
For me , oil or ATF is always cheaper & easier than paying a Mechanic
