I think this is a good example of Ohm's Law.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohm%27s_law If resistance goes up(loose connection) voltage and amps go down.  The logical product is heat at the point of highest resistance.  That is why a bad connection can "BURN".  This happens on electric cars.  A battery post in a series string of batteries can melt if not tight.  It may also express itself under load and not under light load.  This was my problem.  It was fine in the daytime but at night when the alternator was asked to put more amps out the problem arose.  I'm surprised the starter didn't have a problem.  Lawrence Rhodes
