Is your temp. gauge in Celsius or Fahrenheit ?
Many Mercedes are in Celsius so the ideal temp reading is around 80° C.
All my OM617's have 82° C thermostats and usually run right at 82° on the gauge .
It's been cool (high 30's / 40's ° F) in The L.A. Basin the last week or so , my temp. gauge rarely reached 80° C but the heater blows plenty hot so it's good .
If you're not sure , run your car 30 minutes or so then try to wrap your hand & fingers around the upper radiator hose close to the engine .
I can do this but most think it's too hot ~ if the hose or thermostat housing is uncomfortably hot after 30 minutes driving in winter , you're running just fine no matter what the gauge says .
