Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : U joint & windows

The "propeller" shaft has flex discs on each end and rides in a bearing on the middle. I've not had one go bad (500,000 miles both cars), but doesn't mean ir can't happen. Get the car up in the air and wiggle things around. If you don't have a hoist (like me) find a "friendly" muffler shop or whoever has a hoist and trade him a chicken for a lift. I also take ph 7 otos of the bottom end of my cars because I don't work on the bottom as much as the top.  The front aux fan is for an overheat situation when the temps are 100c or 110c - if you have good radiator, coolant, and stay at 80c-85c your aux heater will not be coming on. As I recall, you can run current to it and see if it works. Back to the windows, if your are operated by electrical switches in the center console, go to Diesel Giant and find their pictorial. I fixed 7 windows (2 cars) by following the drill. Just watch the bb's and springs as they will hit the floor and hide when it is time to put things back together.

On a/c...OH.  So I might have a/c huh?  COOL in more ways than one!  I haven't even tried it.  I'll check it out later...too hot out now.

Where do the flex discs go? I'm being lazy here I could look it up.  It's not going to be fixed this weekend.  Is it dangerous or just a nuisance?

Yeah the DPO did work on them..so who knows how much he messed them up. Not a priority, it goes down and up..sometimes I have to urge it either way, but it works which is good enough for me, for now.

Thanks!

There's a pair of rubber flex discs .

The rear windows should roll all the way down ~ carefully take the doors apart and have a look ~ if the goober DPO worked on them , you'll be needing some basic common sense repairs and maybe parts , cheap from the junkyard .

A fan in front of the radiator isn't going to make the vents work , that's a whole 'nother issue .
