Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: What's it worth?

I need cash, not a tax write-off and the last time I did a huge donation for a write-off I would have gotten far less than what I got with taking the standard deduction.

I do live on a very busy FM road and will park it at the end of the driveway and see what happens.  Heck a few years ago we sold a Lumina with a blown head gasket for almost $1000.

Oh I could never get out of this car what I've got in it...I paid waaaaay too much in the first place.  Too excited when I found it, too mad at former car that over-heated 2x in one week stranding me for hours each time in 115 degree heat and it ate tires constantly.

No this will never be a reliable daily driver for me.  Too much invested, too many oil leaks, too much to get it fixed in time and $$.  I think it's time to let it go.  Sure do like the orange color, it's so unusual and I get compliments every time I DO get it on the road!  Heck, it's the Texas Tech color so maybe some nut will buy it.  A dear friend of ours loved the hub caps, I was going to give them to him when I got ready to sell, but darn him, he died on us!  Couldn't put the bottle down, ruined his liver.  Felt bad, went to doc, came home, laid down for a nap and died at the age of 59.

Great idea on taking off the aluminum stuff of the old motor and selling it seperate.  Kevin's all about scrapping and recycling, they tease him at work all the time, but crap they threw away from all of the remodeling they've done at camp, he's been able to get several thousand out of!   Old a/c's he tears apart for the copper, old copper plumping he'll take the brass off of, old copper wire he'll strip the plastic of off....They even gave him a T-shirt for his b-day one year that had Lamont on it.  One mans trash is another man mortgage payment! :)

About $600 .

Why not take it to one of those charity vehicles places ? . they'll take it and not comlain it's a beater .

However , be *VERY* careful , I got ripped off , they said one thing then only sent me a $600 tax receipt on a nice truck I'd just finished putting $3,700.00 worth of PARTS ALONE into ~ everything worked perfectly , current tags , so clean you could eat off it blah blah blah .

So _ASK_ what you'll get in tax value and DO NOT leave it behind unless they give you the tax receipt right then and there .

If you have much passing traffic , park it not too close to the road and ask $1,000 for it & take any green you see .

The problem with old vehicles is : they're never worth the $ you put in , all ypou can do is be diligent about up fixin' then then run them for years to get your $ worth back out .

You got skinned going in but it's quite possible you're close to the breakout point where it becomes a reliable daily driver .

Your old engine is worth maybe $150 , the trick is finding someone who'll want it .
