Re: [diesel_mercedes] HELP! Wife is in Newport beach no start.

Lawrence,

Jump starting the car is probably a VERY bad, VERY DANGEROUS idea.

If the key isn't turning, or not turning all the way, you may be at risk of having the steering lock bolt not disengaging.  If she got it started, and tried to drive, what result if the steering lock bolt froze up the steering during her trip (no matter how short the trip)?

You are probably going to need the car towed somewhere that you (or someone else) can remove the lock assembly and repair whatever is not working.  I believe that the process is in our archives, and there may be tutorials at Mercedes Source or Diesel Giant.

If you are in San Francisco, you probably don't want your wife in Newport Beach driving a car with such a safety hazard.

We were occasionally having a small problem with the ignition not turning to the
start position.  It's usually solved by pulling out the key, reinserting and
then it will go to the start position.  She's tried a hundred times.  Is there a
reliable locksmith or mechanic in Newport Beach that could take a look at it?
83 240D.  I'm in San Francisco.  Maybe one could use a wire to jump start the
starter.  Lawrnece Rhodes
