I have one of the older dreaded MB climate control systems. They actully have an
electronic solution but very expensive. I push the Defrost top button.
It works fine but none of the other buttons work. Maybe vacuum. Will find
out. There is a video on Mercedes Source
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxiNV1Tq3NY
that goes into it with alternate fixes and supplies to do so. Lawrence

If the fan blows out of the wrong holes, it's vacuum. If you have to punch the
defrog button to get the fan going, and then it subsequently continues to run in
the other settings after you get it started, that's an electrical problem with
the fan. I think the defrog button sends the largest spike of juice available
to the fan motor which kicks it going, and then it will keep spinning on kinetic
energy and less juice from there. From what I have read in the peachpart
forums, this is frequently caused by worn out brushes in the motor.
I emailed back and forth with George today. He has brushes for $29 a set.
