Oooh, yeah.  That's a good one, too.  I've seen vent tubes that were blocked with mud-based nests built by those solitary wasps (or bees or whatever).  'Course, those were in cars that were allowed to sit around for a few months....

Another thing to try..

Take the fuel cap off, the next time it's acting up..

Maybe the tank's venting system has failed, and it's attempting to draw a vacuum..

I've seen this happen a couple of times, both in motorcycles, and my VW diesel pickup..

The vent tube gets kinked/blocked whatever, and the system essentially creates a vacuum trying to get fuel out of the tank.. You shut the car off, over time, the vacuum fails, so you can drive again for distances..

...it'll cost you nothing, and doesn't require tools to try.
