Re: [diesel_mercedes] Can these things run on used engine oil?

In my opinion, Henry's got the right approach.  Waste Motor Oil (WMO) can be used as a fuel, BUT, it really needs to be cleaned as much as possible.  Do a search of the archives to read about what he's doing.  (I'd use "centrifuge" as a search keyword.)

I've run as much as 100% pure, uncentrifuged oil.  Power is WAAAAAAY down, and the smell and smoke is quite noxious.  I wouldn't recommend it.  The biggest fear I have with it is the always present acid found in used motor oil.  I don't think it would hurt the engine, per se, but, it could/probably would damage the little precision parts found in the injection pump.

Used transmission fluid is much less problematic.

I run WMO, but, after centrifuging it.

Someone recently suggested that he ran his 1985 turbo diesel on a combo of
regular diesel and old used engine oil, mixed 50-50.

Anyone ever know of this kind of a fuel mix. Old oil is probably free in
lots of places, especially my drive way.
