I don't think I have ever seen you say what failed in the pump end. Hot
water is hot water heated with diesel or propane. All systems have a check
valve to hold pressure against the pump. This is what controls the pressure
system. Without this check valve pressure would bleed back and the pump
would start and build pressure then shut down, much as if the system had a
leak down stream of the pump. The pressure tank is just a wide spot in the
system that holds the "energy" expended by the pump and to reduce cycling.

Again, I ask, what failed?
