Why not gasoline? 4 stroke. No reason for "must be"diesel. There were gasoline two
cycle engines, and flat design has been out since before the war... the "Big one", WWII.
Volkswagen had them then, Subaru copied the design... water cooled it.
The only thing "new" is on a single rod throw... new to this decade maybe. I have
seen aircraft motors, radial and diesel radial with pistons opposing with two
pistons/rods on a single throw. The diesel radial engines were boat motors used in WWII
also.
I skimmed the article, maybe I missed something?
