In La Canada, Ca., it was a nice if hot day, I was _supposed_ to do a LOF and valve adjust on the '82 240D but instead I got my hair cut (ALL of them !) then wandered over to the Fall Fling WPC MoPar nutters show and swap meet, I found a few good things cheaply including a N.O.S. vintage "gas economy" gauge, it's a vacuum gauge with different colors on the dial depending on how much intake manifold vacuum your engine has (our Diesels have _zero_ intake vacuum being direct fuel injection) so mayhap I'll make a tranny vacuum testing gauge out of it and teach my self how to adjust the up shifting on the early slush boxes .
Anyways, in the afternoon I drove to the Mercedes meet and got there a bit early, grabbed a nice large parking spot and tore the driver's door apart and used a mix of new German trim clips and grommets plus two very narrow American car trim "T" bolts I'd found N.O.S. at the Fall Fling, to attach the always falling off (do to improper door repair 30 years ago) driver's door middle trim then I replaced the mangled original lower door trim (the same bodge job body repair they used sheet metal screws to hold it on) with a perfect used one, again using brandy new German made plastic clips , before starting I hand waxed the door to get rid of the old water / dirt stains underneath where the trims go .
Then I removed the fuel sender as it's been turning the low fuel lamp on too soon and the gauge needle has been flickering once it reaches 1/4 tank ~ I discovered a little bit of fungus chunks in there, cleaned it all out and re assembled whilst many of the others gathered 'round and asked questions about both jobs .
A nice day out, to - morrow maybe I'll get to the LOF & valve adjustment .
I do have a *perfect* W123 driver's side door and need to find some place to paint it the correct Alpine white with NO ORANGE PEEL inside and out, then I'll dress it and install it, discard the original bent door .
One of these days .
