Tom,
You might talk to the boss lady and see if she is willing to forgo the heater. I bypassed the one in my pickup about 6 years ago. Sometimes i regret it, but mainly it has not been a problem. South of Tuscon, you should have even less need for the heater.
It is easier on the MB, than my pickup, but still a real pain to remove and replace the heater core.

If you decide to leave the bypass in place, it might be a good idea to clean the cooling system. But it will not fix the heater.
Subject to update by Nate.
Good luck,
Bobby

I did a by pass today. No leaks. Will drive to town tomorrow and see. With coolant running out like it was, do you think that cleaning the system will work or do I need to tear the dash out to get to the heater core (which I will need to find instructions on how to)? We only reached mid 90's here today (south of Tucson). If it gets any colder people will be breaking out their sweaters. (LOL). Thanks for the input. Tom.
