O.K. , my Brother Tom reminded me to not go off half cocked and to TEST THINGS before mindlessly throwing parts at it...

So , as the oil hot oil was draining out , I took the GP relay's cover off and tested for current and good connection of the strip fuse , every thing was O.K. there so I unplugged the sub harness and used my test lamp to do continuity tests , # 3 and 4 plugs were open circuit , meaning dead .

Yes , there's a specific ohms test but in general , either they're good or not and a simple test will reveal what you need to know .

I had some spare tested glow plugs lying about for Tom's '81 300SD , installed them into my 240D and repaired a bad ring terminal using field method (photos) . I used the old ring terminal off the end of the wire as a gusseting washer , added  another washer to the other side of the new twisted wire and buttoned it back up , it now starts easily , very little cranking .

I  cleaned up and drove to the junkyard with *almost* enough tools to easily remove glow plugs , forgetting the 17MM ATF open end wrench to remove the injector pipes , oops .

Luckily I have medium size hands and lots of experience getting them into tight places , I found _one_ car with all five glow plugs in it , none of the other cars in the yard had a relay .

By the time I got home it was 20 past noon and I'd just missed Tom , I passed out in my recliner for an hour before SWMBO called and asked me to come down .

It's Monday now and I'm still beat .
