The good news is that this should be easily trackable and fixable. There are only a finite number of possibilities. Any car this old could benefit from a complete replacement of electrical components sooner or later - why not make it sooner? I would start with replacing battery cables and work my way towards the starter & solenoid. Having a new electrical system is a feel good thing if you want to keep this beast around for another 5 or 10 years. Most of this can be a DIY experience which can teach you a lot about your car too.
