Lawrence et al,
I've been testing my battery/ charging system too lately, with the plug
in volt meter and the load tester. The load tester also has a charging
system area on the meter. It says to hold the switch for 15 secs and see
where the meter drops to, for load, depending on the load capacity of
the battery, ours are the highest ones.
Everything tests fine sometime, and doesn't later on.
I've cleaned all the connections, including the ground the tranny bolt,
which may have helped.
Right now, I think my battery is on the weak side of good, and the
charging system is a little weak.
Bosch factory rebuilt alt, replaced the voltage regulator w/ bosch,
though the other looked fine when removed.
Keep on testing, maybe with the battery cell acid test.

I'm not sure if it is a weak battery on the edge or a weak alternator. It starts and charges with an occasional scare when it just goes to battery voltage. So maybe it's a combination of both. If you have a weak battery your alternator will work harder. If your alternator is not doing it's job it will ruin your battery.....I just don't want to buy both. I'm going to give my battery a load test today. I have one of those 100 amp load testers with the big cords & clips I got from Harbor Freight. Wonder how much time to get a good test. The tester has a momentary switch.
