When I start my 240 4spd., it instantly goes to 14.4V. Not sure of the alternator, still the one which came with the car. Max

Well I bit the bullet and bought and installed a Bosch rebuilt alternator. Not much help. While the commutators were worn with grooves from the brushes it did function. The new alternator is slightly better by .2vdc I'm charging the battery now as with all this screwing around and load testing it really drained my battery to the point of not starting. I'm hoping the charge will bring the battery to normal and the very weak Mercedes charging system can then work it's best. If this doesn't work I'll get a new battery. If that doesn't work then there is a wire somewhere with a loose connection under the dash I just wish would be easy to find. It is still taking a long time to come up to 13.7vdc. Way too long. I would think it should instantly go to 14.4 volts. It's not. Lawrence RHOdes
