Well I finally broke down and went to my mechanic. However again while there the voltage was good...however when turning on the lights and fan no dice. So I asked for a few other things while there. But specifically asked him to clean and tighten the connection to the starter. That did it. As usual at idle not so good but with a few revs ...maybe 2000 It was over 13vdc with the lights and fan. So it was a connection that had loosened. On my W123 the only bare connection under the hood for the alternator is at the starter for both alternator and battery. I also had him get the boot back on that connection so hopefully this won't be a problem again. Thanks for suggesting the junction box check. On my car the starter connection is the closest thing to a junction box. Lawrence Rhodes
