It will be two wheel drive at first. it was easier to adapt an american drive line to the output of the german transmission than anything else I could think of. I'm actively looking for a stand-alone transfer case for a right side front pumpkin and when I get that I will make it 4 wheel drive. I made a special adapter plate to go from the back of a German transmission to mate with 1310 u joint yolk and that is how the Germans and the Americans are interfacing. I'm doin' this on a thin budjet.

It came out of an '82(-ish?) TD I bought at a salvage auction. I drove it the 8 or so blocks from the auction site to my shop. Other than the twisted left front fender causing severe tire gouging, the car drove and shifted just fine. Might want to confirm it has the latest B2 servo upgrades before installation. Easy to do on a transmission that's not installed in a car.

Interesting that you're using the MB tranny in your CJ conversion. Are you going to have 4-wheel drive? I'm going to be using the AW4 in my XJ using these guys' kit:

I'll use the RAdesigns shift adapter. It will be a manually shifted automatic, which is fine with me.

Guibo is that round rubber disk at each end of the drivelines. But about the tranny . . . I'm currently putting one of these engines in a jeep CJ7 and as of now it is mated to a 4-bolt slushbox. That should be very adequate for a light weight rig like a CJ. So 1) is yours a 4 or 6 bolt pan and 2) how cheap is really cheap.

BTW, thanks for suggesting the carrier bearing mount. That's easy.

Not sure what a "guibo" is, but, the the symptoms sound like classic drive shaft carrier bearing housing failure. The bearing itself is likely all right, but the housing is made of rubber, and often fails.

Doubtful it's the transmission, but if you need one, I've got one that I'll let go real, real cheap. Just need to get it over the mountain to you.
