[diesel_mercedes] California temp/coolant?

 

I've flushed out my 1979 300SD, changed the thermosta(it was shot) and just have distilled water in it. It runs a tick over 80C around town and about 95C on the highway(up and down some slight grades-about 90C level hwy).

Going up some standard grades (Newhall Pass- a few miles) it's running a tick over 100C. Before I attempt something like the Grapevine(I-5) I just wanted to run the temps by the group.

I'll be putting Zerex G-05 in tomorrow. There really was no rust or scale buildup. The engine was rebuilt about 100k ago as told to me by the previous owner. Everything I've done so far has revealed that it was rebuilt.

I've got a diesel VW, so I always keep an eye on the temp. Just haven't run the 300SD to know what normal is.
