Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Topic Drift : Nash Metropolitan

FWIW, the originator of Jaguar originally bought chassies from Austin or Swallow to put their own sheet steel on them; it seems like there was a common practice to incorporate the parts from others car companies to create a different vehicle.

Yes George ;

They also made Drop Head Coupes (Convertibles) ~ I just sold mine as I'm a Closed Car kinda guy .

They made two experimentals with dual carbys and overdrive , they ran very well indeed on the Turnpikes , one still exists in Puerto Rico .

They also made two Station Wagons , One of those was saved and restored by the late Jimmy Valentine and resides in The Metropolitan Pit Stop's in house museum where I can drool over it and wish.... I think they'd have sold quite a few Wagons but the $ was always very tight @ AMC so they shelved it .

Metropolitans were made in Jolley Olde England by BMC , makers of MG and other good cars so the entire chassis is made up from off the shelf Sports Car parts ~ this means with little effort I was able to transform my little Ladies Grocery Getter into a fun , economical canyon carving Sports Coupe......

Folks are always amazed to see it go whizzing past them anywhere but in a straight line =8-) .
