I'd take it apart before ordering parts.....
The park brake is *inside* the center section of the rear brake rotor and occasionally fails , producing horrific gridning noises .
At the very east , order up new park brake shoes .
It's been too long but I don't recall needing any special tools to do the CV Joints , your freind prolly has everything you'll need on hand , get some Hypoid gear Lube and a pump ready .
Yes , the SDL springs will be an improvement .
here in Sunny (if chilly) So. Cal. the price of RUG has finally dropped to $3.79 / Gal. so I wasn't surprised to see Branded Diesel @ $3.99 in the very next block .
It's Fall so I'll prolly begin driving my Diesel Sports Coupe more soon , especially if the fuel co$t remains affordable .
I need to address the Glow Plugs in Tom's 300SD very soon as it's beginning to hard start when cold , of course his car emits less smoke than any other Mercedes Diesel I've ever seen , GRRrrrrr
