If just one stopped , replace the switch .

If both , you'll need to test the fuses with a test light as they often corrode *just* enough to not pass sufficient current .

If any of the fuses have silver or grey colored metal , replace _ALL_ of them RIGHT NOW with the proper yellow metal strips , remembering to mind the 8 , 16 & 25 ampere ones go into differeing places .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Driver side power windows.

The windows are fused in the fuse box.  for some reason they are tied together left front to right rear and right front to left rear.  If your passenger side rear window is still working, it's not a fuse problem.  It could be either the switch or the motor.  I'd check the switch first.  You can swap them left to right for testing.  The strange thing is that both of the lines to the motor are hot - one for up, one for down.  The ground side is through the switch.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Speedometer cable

Yes it did work.  It had a bounce to it every now and then.  Now that it broke and we pulled it out we see why.  It was twisted and frayed.

Thanks

Has the speedo worked since you changed it over? If not, the rear of the tranny maybe set for an electronic speedo, and not a cable. The tranny tail might be swapable. I did that for my 300D, with the oddball CA' 85 tranny.

I debated both myself. I went with the carpet and it has been one of my better moves.

The last 240D I had came to me with the molded plastic dash cover.  It was not glued down, but still looked good.  I was able to take it off to see the condition of the dash under it.  Three cracks as I recall, none of them very bad.  I thought about trying to patch the cracks, but I wanted it to blend with the texture and color of the dash.  Never thoroughly explored that possibility.  If someone knows of a patch method that works and doesn't look like a patched pothole, I'd be interested.  I would go with the molded plastic cover.  If not glued down, it is slightly fragile.  The cover I had was torn about one inch at the right edge.

[diesel_mercedes] Some of you might think this is Off Topic, But it does have a pic of my MB

This is what Kevin came home with today. These guys might maybe be a week old.  Apparently a momma duck & her ducklings from the farm next to the church camp where Kevin works came over to the Worship Center. Remember it's summer camp there are 1,100 "tweens"  looking for something to get into.  They disturbed the mom, then the ducklings.  Someone else "took care" of them all week.  There were five to begin with. We know someone with a ranch that hatches and raises all sorts of poultry and fowl. She put them in with some baby pheasant & quail.  They'll be fine. She has a large stock tank on her property.  They'll be fine.

I went through Autohauz, on impulse to save $12 AND get free shipping I also ordered the V-belt.

Sure, after they shipped I remembered that what I really needed was the shifter bushings that are rigged up under there. Next order.  There will always be a next order! :)

Yes, it just sits on the dash.  Mine didn't sit perfectly flat at the defroster vents and at one of the speakers, but it was still almost undetectable to any but a well-trained eye.

Brian,

Is the molded plastic a simple slip on fit if I don't glue it either?

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Electric Window Service

Don't forget that little Phillips-head screw behind the black cover under the inside door latch handle!  That thing always throws off the uninformed....

If you s-l-o-w-l-y and c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y peel that inner door liner off, you can reuse it.  May have to buy something to get it to stick back on again.  3M makes a rollable, sticky black product that comes in a box.  I think it's called "Body Putty", or "Body Filler", something like that.

In any case , use a wide sheet metal tool , like a GM Door handle clip remover , to ever so gently lift the inner trim panel away , you'll soon get a good feel for finding the plastic slips and sliding the notch in the tool so you don't ruin the panel's cardboard.....

Once it's apart take a looksee and note what's what , if the lift or motor is junk , jot down the part #'s stamped into them and we'll see about getting you fixed up again , 'K ? .
