I went with the felt dash covers on both cars, and have never regretted the move.

The last 240D I had came to me with the molded plastic dash cover. It was not glued down, but still looked good. I was able to take it off to see the condition of the dash under it. Three cracks as I recall, none of them very bad. I thought about trying to patch the cracks, but I wanted it to blend with the texture and color of the dash. Never thoroughly explored that possibility. If someone knows of a patch method that works and doesn't look like a patched pothole, I'd be interested. I would go with the molded plastic cover. If not glued down, it is slightly fragile. The cover I had was torn about one inch at the right edge.
