The ultimate book is the Electrical Trouble Shooting Manual from MBNA The edition I have is for 1982 passenger cars and covers D,SD,SEL,SLC, andSL.  This book breaks down the systems individually and has pictures and location maps for the components.  Unfortunately I don't have a clue about where to get one.  Talk to Tom @ Mercedes.
