Speaking of that reminds me: Check the supply line that runs from the engine block towards the back of the IP. It's on the left side (the outside, fender side) of the IP, and should be easy to find. The other end goes towards the front of the engine, and connects at the rounded point of the engine block outside of the auxillery shaft gear. The whole thing is only about 8-inches long, plus or minus. It consists of a plastic tube with steel banjo-bolt fittings on each end.

Over time, the plastic tube becomes brown, and hard and brittle. When I still had my '77 300D, this tube developed a crack during a cold snap. When I got on the highway with it, I noticed in the rear-view mirror a HUGE blue cloud emanating from the back of my car. It was pumping out at a pretty good rate.
The good news is that it was a relatively easy fix. Kinda easy to get to, and I just slipped some rubber hose over the broken plastic tube, and secured it with tiny hose clamps. That held until I did a proper fix. MUCH easier to remedy than oil cooler lines....
Also could be loose (or missing) banjo bolt(s).

You injection pump uses oil from the engine.I drove mine hard one time, and my engine on drivers side had oil on it.It came out of the pumps oil pressure relief valve. It never happened again even at 106mph
