From what I read in other forums that is an indication that the brushes are bad. I have read that you can get them from George Murphy

...and other people say you can buy some at Ace Hardware that will work.
I think I will take mine to an alternator shop and have them do it. Maybe I'll buy some brushes from George and then have the alternator shop do the job for me.
From what I read the motor is not designed to be taken apart and repaired but people do it anyway.
