SWMBO called me on her cell 'phone & I could hear every smoke detector in the house blaring , she was in a blind panic and said the "house is on FIRE ! come quick !" ~ so I hollered at my boss and boogied , when I got there the super fancy microwave oven she'd bought a year ago , had exploded as she was cooking dinner on the gas range below it , luckily one of our Foster boys was there and he ran & brought the big fire extinguisher & shot it at the smouldering oven as she called the fire dept. , they came and unceremoniously ripped it out of the new cabinetry with a pike then carried it out to the front lawn & left .
We're _VERY_ lucky in that little smoke damage was done , there's white powder all over 1/2 the house but no one was hurt (the meat went into the trash bin) and the rest of the kitchen is O.K. , or appears it will be once the cleanup is done .
I've been smelling burnt electrical for over a month now and occasionally this microwave oven would make humming sounds for a while before going silent again but since no one else ever smelled what I did , and the microwave still worked , my warnings were ignored .
Had this happened @ 02:00 , the story might have been very different ending .
BE SAFE ! have a FIRE EXTINGUISHER handy ,a BIG one ,not the $10 cheapy .
