New,
What usually goes bad are the fuel return lines. There are five or so. When I replaced one, enough fuel return line to do all of them was less than $10 at a MB dealer. (Still pretty expensive for 2 1/2 feet or so of small tubing.)
Doing it is no big deal - do one at a time - remove the old one - cut a matching one from the new tubing - install - repeat. There are no clamps to fiddle with - just slide the old tubing off and slide on the new tubing.
Other people have advised not to substitute another type of tubing - get the real thing from MB.
