Re: [diesel_mercedes] Can these things run on used engine oil?

Hi Mike,
I've only had the car for 3 years so I hesitate to speak to long term effects. I also don't run this mix straight...although I've read that it is done. I usually add several gallons to my WVO tank. I haven't collected WMO from garages because you don't know whether there are sythentic motor oils in the witches brew. I just use my own motor oil & trans fluid from cars, trucks, small engines & motor cycles. I have an Absolute Centriguge that I use for WVO and automotive oils. Specs claim the unit removes particulate matter to 0.1 micron. I have new Monark injectors that I'll be installing and rebuilding the OEM injectors with new Bosio nozzles to keep on the shelf. I'll be able to tell better if there is an issue with increased injector wear when I pull the Monarks for an inspection. Right now the car is off road for drive train repairs, rust repair, fuel/brake line replacement and then injectors, valve adjustment & timing chain replacement. All work done in house (garage). I'm a busy boy!!

Any known long term issues with 50/50 Trans/Kerosene/+additive?

Use kerosene to dilute the WMO. It's usually cheaper than diesel and is better at thinning out the WMO. I centrifuge after adding the kerosene. Lubricity is provided by the WMO. Use whatever additive you prefer after filtering or centrifuging.

Thanks Mark.
yeah, I agree. I use the WMO, but, mix it with regular diesel. Sort of like
the bread crumbs in meatloaf........to make more.
It seems to really cut down on the smoke and fumes, but, I still get the
savings from the WMO.
The centrifuge seems to be working fine.
I also use a diesel additive, had been using Power Service with this mix.
I just found another company, good prices and seems a good product, that I'm
experimenting with, now.

In my opinion, Henry's got the right approach. Waste Motor Oil (WMO) can be
used as a fuel, BUT, it really needs to be cleaned as much as possible. Do a
search of the archives to read about what he's doing. (I'd use "centrifuge"
as a search keyword.)

I've run as much as 100% pure, uncentrifuged oil. Power is WAAAAAAY down,
and the smell and smoke is quite noxious. I wouldn't recommend it. The
biggest fear I have with it is the always present acid found in used motor
oil. I don't think it would hurt the engine, per se, but, it could/probably
would damage the little precision parts found in the injection pump.

Used transmission fluid is much less problematic.

I run WMO, but, after centrifuging it.

Someone recently suggested that he ran his 1985 turbo diesel on a combo of
regular diesel and old used engine oil, mixed 50-50.

Anyone ever know of this kind of a fuel mix. Old oil is probably free in
lots of places, especially my drive way.
