Re: [diesel_mercedes] 240 blowing alternators

Rob,

Thanks for the link.  The price is quite good.

Usually, I need an alternator rather quickly when one dies.  I have bought from PEP Boys, VIP auto, Advanced Auto, etc.

The one that just died was from Robbins Auto Parts, who is a Fisher auto parts dealer.  The sticker on the rebuild is "USA industries".  I usually am worried about companies that have to name themselves "USA".  They are usually not really a quality product, but instead try to make people believe that they are quality.  Sort of like USA Japan, when they wanted to stamp their products as "Made in USA".

Looking on the web, I found USA Industries.  They have a flashy website, but very poor quality.  It takes them 3 tries to get their own company name correct!

Re-Manufacturing, the Original Green Industry

I will try to get my money back from Robbins.  They are usually quite good with their quality.  This is unusual for them.

Either way, I'll buy a Bosch.

Hi Carl,

I blew through a few FLAP alternators, one after another, while they
were still in warranty, yet what a pain.
I bought the Bosch factory one from http://www.autohausaz.com and it's
been fine ever since.

Max could also be right about the regulator, especially on the original
one. The FLAP alternators seemed to have some issue that ate through the
regulator in 6 months or so.

Try the regulator first, if you've got the time. It's cheaper.
