As I recall, the SD get 1 or 2 mpg more than a D due to the more aerodynamically sound body. The w123 300D diesel is boxy and only achieves (average) 25 mpg.

What is why? Because you think an SD gets worse mileage? than a D? I
would think the SD would be better in that regard than a D(123).
