Looking for some advice. I know this off topic and forum but I thought I would still ask, I was looking at an sel model mercedez, but does anyone know if they are economical or if they waste alot of gas. I work sales and collextions so economical the better, but I heard that everytime you press down on that pedal you see the gas gauge drop, Any opinions? If anyone seling an sd or d model mercedes I am intrested it has to be in south texas area though. I have checked e bay and very few and locally you can only find the one I am talking about above or they are in really bad shape and non running.

Do you have a refinery in your back yard?   They don't waste gas, but they make exceedingly good use of a lot of it. SEL stands for Super Expensive Long.  I just bought an '87 560SEL in good condition that needed about a $1,000 worth of work  for $1,250.  This car spent all but the last three years of its life in a heated garage.  I have all the repair tickets since then and I was still hesitant.  The 5.6 liter engine translates to roughly the equivalent of a 350 cube chevy.   But with the Mercedes you get double overhead cams, an appetite for high test and a relatively complicated car.  Super nice when it all works, but unless you plan on working on it yourself it can get expensive fast.  As the price of fuel goes up the price of cars like this tends to go down.  I operate on the premise that if you have a car you will be paying someone.  Take your pick between the bank, the mechanic, or the gas station.
