Re: [diesel_mercedes] Henry's Crashing Crane

yeah,
such strange things happen right near teenagers, without their involvement
at all. .............

Interestingly:
The crane survived pretty much intact. some minor bending of sheet metal, on
handle broken, that's it, except for an interesting occurrence. Something
I'm sure an experienced vehicle rolling person would have thought of:
Since the truck sat upside down for a day, it seems oil leaked into the
cylinders........
So, after I checked the fluids and re-installed the batteries, I cranked it
over to see if it'd start.
BOY HOWDY!!!!
It "ran away" for about 30 seconds..........super high rpm, pulling the
"kill handle" had no effect. But, once the oil in the cylinders ran out, it
shut off. Seemingly, no worse for wear, although, it did bath me and
everything for 50 feet in black soot and oil......and, probably cleaned any
carbon out of the system.

That is how I know shutting off the fuel is not the best way to stop a
run-away diesel. Stopping the air is the only sure fire way to stop it.....

Teeneagers huh ? interesting how a spring parking brake managed to "
release itself " isn't it ? .

BT , DT , I won't admit to anything =8-) .

I hope it wasn't damaged badly .

yup,
it was my crane truck............
It somehow rolled down the hill behind my house, releasing the
parking brake
and taking itself out of gear, steered between several trees, and
flipped.
The first part of the description is what the teenagers visiting my
neighbor
want me to believe, anyway..........

Yup, it's me, nope, not young.........
Lots of fun helped age me quicker, too.........but, it was worth
it.........grin......

Yeah,
They are fun trucks, and, mine are "multi-fuel", they can burn
anything that
you can pour into the tank that's flammable......made for
WWIII........
