Thanx Rob ;
I may have to cobble up a pressure testing rig before I do anything else .

Nate,
Here's a video from Mercedes Source showing the older and newer modulators: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM4KZvwsCW0
Pic of modulator:https://mercedessource.com/store/7223x-turbo-diesel-transmission-vacuum-modulator-upgrade-green-instructions-available-0
I had to remove the rear tranny mount, and lower the tranny to get access, 2 bolts, pull out, slide new one in, re-bolt and test. I had decent shifts before the last modulator failed, so I didn't do the whole vacuum shift test.
I think my shift is too soft right now, so I'll turn the knob on the modulator this weekend.
Here's some info from the Sun Valley Mercedes Transmissions:

Thanx Rob! .
Any chance of a picture of this up graded modulator ? .
Does anyone have detailed info on checking the slushbox internal pressure ? .
1982 240D with first gear start, it takes 30 seconds plus to take up from park and shifts late ~ before I touch anything else I'd like to rig uo a hose and pressure gauge and check / adjust it at speed like Mercedes says to do.....
I have no idea where to tap in for the pressure and the specs to look for, any links would be greatly appreciated .
TIA,
-Nate
