Re: [diesel_mercedes] What dumps water on the right-rear floorboard?

OK, listen real careful. I'm on my 9th Mercedes 123 bodystyle
and every single one has had a leak of some kind when I first bought
them. So here's the ones I've found so far in my experience:

1. Sunroof. Most common. Usually clogged drain holes in the top like
the other guys have mentioned. Prone b/c of leaves, straw, etc
getting there and people not cleaning them out. You can tell real
quick by watering down the sunroof (open or closed) and if it's
clogged, the water will back up and then drain unseen down the front
pillars and appear in your floorboards.
2. A/C drain plug. All cars have these, and if they get clogged with
debris, then the water coming off your A/C evaporator will pool up
and then leak inside. THIS INCLUDES IF YOU'RE USING THE DEFROST
CYCLE in winter  b/c the A/C is still condensing the moisture in the
air.  I just cleaned mine out by taking out the blower motor and
spraying a hose inside. It should drain out the middle of the car
just above the tranny. You can also go underneath the car and take
an air hose and shoot it out. But be careful...mine was made of foam
and so are most of the mid-80's Mercedes diesels.
3. Battery tray rot: Sometimes the battery acid will eat a hole just
below the battery tray all the way through to the inside. Spray the
battery tray and look inside.
4. Leaky windsheild: A little harder to diagnose since it's such a
big surface area. Start with the others first and then elimate which
ones don't leak.
Leaks will start in the front and then slosh to the back.
That's also why almost every Benz I've bought is missing the rear
floor mats. I've never had problems with the back drains.
