Actually he's solved a couple of the problems the SDs come with: Broken air cleaner mounts and an evil convoluted exhaust system that may have been useful on the V-8 engines but is way overkill on the diesel. Also if you can over-boost the engine you'll get a better view of the thick black smoke.
