Re: [diesel_mercedes] Battery Suppliers

It would be interesting to test the Wal*Mart batteries to find what they are actually putting out.  At both of the auto parts retailers I have worked for,  when new batteries off the shelf were tested, they nearly always exceeded the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating printed on the sticker.  Perhaps Wal*Mart is rating their batteries closer to the actual output.  Or, it's a hoped-for rating....

Five years of service is pretty good, and should be the minimum life expectancy of any battery, if properly maintained.  Make sure it is well bolted down, keep the top, posts and clamps clean, check the acid level twice a year (does anyone ever do this?), filling only with distilled water when needed, don't allow it to sit discharged for any length of time whatsoever.

Last week I finally had to replace the battery in the '66 250SE (convertible).  It would've turned ten years old in July....

Thanx Mark ! .

Very helpful info .

I've been having great success with the wallymart batteries, they're rated @ 900 CCA, higher than other brands from the same mfr.

If I can get over five years out of any battery I'm well pleased, it's a rare thing for me not to get five + years of service .
