[diesel_mercedes] Routine Service

O.K., I got up early and was at the local show & shine before 6AM, grabbed an out of the way parking spot so not to bother the rich guys & Hot Rodders with my battered old Mercedes Diesel Sports Coupe....

An hour or so later a few guys came up and babbled how nice my car was and I should bring it to their new Mercedes Club's gathering this afternoon

I went home and did the hot oil and filter change, managed to loosen the engine drain plug with my left hand (ow) and didn't spill any oil anywhere  ~ not the fresh oil going in nor the old oil transferring from the _very_ full drain pan .

I did of course, dribble some droplets as I removed the oil oil filter cartridge......

Oddly, my TWO one gallon jugs of Rotella Diesel oil didn't bring the level up to the dipstick's full mark .

I wonder if maybe one gallon was a little bit short ? .

Anyways, after that I was sore and my back ached so I took a hydrocodone and went to Tom's Man Cave in Monrovia , stopped by my Son's house and fed his dogs, by the time I reached the Man Cave my back was fine again so I hunted up a hose and washed my Coupe's engine in case anyone wanted to look under the hood , then I washed the accumulated oil drips and Diesel smoot off the cove on Tom's 1987 300SDL and just for kicks, washed the filthy wheels too (I don't want to be embarrassed at any car club meet) , washed the glass on my Coupe as it has streaks etc. then we went to the meet and met some nice guys, mostly under 30 YO and all were more interested in polish and fancy wheels than actually _driving_ their Mercedes but whatever .

I headed home about 6:30PM, at 380 miles the low fuel lamp began to flicker so I slowed down to 60MPH , if I'm awake in the morning around sunup I'll drive it to the ProPel filling station @ Harbor Fwy. and PCH, I hope it'll run out of fuel on the freeway so I can get more of the fine black silt out of the bottom of the tank ~ I have a fresh gallon of Diesel fuel in the trunk and new micronic paper element in line filters in the glove box.....

It's running pretty well now, the lopey idle is getting better bit by bit, who  knows ? maybe I'll finally have a clean fuel system . not like I'm going to yank the fuel tank for cleaning with this broken body .

I also adjusted the hood latch's striker so the safety release almost pops out when I pull he inside release handle .

I guess one of these days I'll have to pull the header back out ~  it's in close to 1/2" from all the times the neighbor's druggie / stoner / drunkard friends have backed into it .

Depending on how good I feel after filling it up and fooling with the filter *maybe* I'll head West on PCH and hit up one or both of the Pick A Part junkyard in Long Beach.... I think my knees could use some walking .

All in all a good day .
