Just find/buy an old injector tube and cut the end off with a tubing tool then use a fine flat file to dress the angle of the end to match the picture as closely as you can .

This is what I did and it turns out it's not hard to make nor to use, I was nervous as all get out I'd muck it up and damage my engine but eventually I had to change out my old worn out injection pump and gave it a go .

I decided to try using 26° timing (Mercedes says 24°) as several people have told me this works out well, so far so good ~ the car still starts in less than one full engine revolution and no  smoke, no more oily spatter out the exhaust and all over the back of the car.....

Mercedes says if you're experiencing hard cold starting to cycle the glow plugs twice and hold the accelerator to the floor and don't let off until all cylinders are hitting .

I'm quite sure once you adjust the valves and discover a couple were at or close to zero lash, your starting troubles will vanish .

When you squeeze your eyes together real hard, it is not hard to see that the drip tube is merely looking for the point where the injector valve just starts to open, sort of like looking for the distributor position when the light just goes out when stationary timing a car with points (say, my 1968 Citroen D).
I will not be surprised to find valves out of adjustment.
As afar as smoke and power, even when it is in one of its moods, it does not smoke and it has pretty good power. I can get 'er up past 80 with little effort. I was told that that's respectable for a 4 popper.
So, that all said, does someone have an injector pipe they would like to part with?
