Yahoo shareholders are saying Yes.
Yesterday they gave their seal of approval to sell Yahoo's core business (Internet, search, email) to Verizon for about $4.5 billion. This deal is nearly a year in the making. Last year, Verizon said it would snatch up The 'Hoo for nearly $5 billion. Then Yahoo said 'oh btw we've been hacked. Twice.' So the company agreed to lower the price tag.
Now, it's official. Verizon - which also owns AOL - is going to combine AOL and Yahoo into a new digital company. Called Oath. OATH ?!!
Oh, and when the merger's done and done, Verizon reportedly plans on telling more than 2,000 of Yahoo and AOL's roughly 14,000 employees 'you're fired.' Nice gift.
