I didn't have to top up the oil nor ATF .
I've managed to cork up the leaks on this car, it doesn't drip in the garage .
The chief difference betwixt a 240D and any 5 cylinder Diesel is : you're not pinning the throttle to the floor constantly to make it go fast enough .
When we traveled in our '82 240D, I kept it steady @ 60 MPH always and often got 32 ~ 34 MPG fully loaded with the AC on full .
I remember wheezing Tom's old 1978 IHC 88 passenger school bus across America, it had crud in the 50 gallon steel gas tank and occasionally choked to a stop, I had no way to remove that heavy sucker in flyover country so I'd blow the fuel pipe backwards and it'd go another 100 miles, or two days....
IIRC it was in Nebraska where it coasted to a silent stop and i could see corn to the horizon in all directions .
Nice and quiet, very peaceful if hotter than blazes .
Let's see if I can attach a photo of my lashed up throttle linkage joint (Mercedes calls this a 'bracket') :

Driving like that whats the oil consumption? I remember once driving my 240 auto to Reno, the back way, almost no freeway, but roads boring as hell, could see in all directions for a 100 miles. We drove for hours with the speedo buried and I noticed the fuel went fast, very fast, never checked it but the mileage was terrible. Max
